The most
recognizable element of any breeding program is, by and large, the
stallion battery. While a herd sire is inarguably vital to any
high-end operation, Tally Ho Shires has never lost sight of that mandate
of equality: the mare component. Too often, unreasonable expectation
is laid at the feet of the stud to correct flaws and improve future
generations of offspring, but the fact is, he can’t do it alone. Taking
your program from common to outstanding requires a careful mare
selection in conformation and elegance as well as mares that ‘nick’ well
with the stallion. Optimum foal caliber demands consistent, honest
evaluation of breeding stock and a constant assessment of how well the
stallions and mares mix. In the last few years we have culled some
mares and replaced them with females that we believe will take us to new
heights. Our position is this: if you want to produce the best, you must breed to the best. Investing
in great mares has paid dividends of unparalleled satisfaction where
our Shire babies are concerned. Meet some of North America’s finest: the
Ladies of Tally Ho. |
